Colorado Stanley Cup Favorite Again
The Avalanche
was installed as the early favorite to win the 2023 Stanley Cup almost
immediately after they won it last season. Could there really be any other
team?
Colorado had
the best record in the Western Conference last year and plowed through playoffs
to win its first title since 2001. The only teams to score more often than the
Avs were Toronto and Florida. Don’t forget, Colorado was missing Nathan
MacKinnon for a stretch last year.
With a core of players that
remains mostly intact, the Avs are a +380 favorite to repeat. Conn Smythe
Trophy winner D Cale Makar is back along with MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin. All of
them are under the age of 30 too.
Colorado did lose Andre
Burakovsky, C Nazem Kadri, and G Darcy Kuemper, but the Avs still have enough
talent to hold the title of Cup favorite once again.

Options - Leafs & Panthers
They were the only
two teams to outscore Colorado. Toronto (+700) and Florida (+900) are the top
contenders to replace the Avalanche as Stanley Cup champions in 2023.
The Maple Leafs continue
to suffer from playoff heartbreak. However, they do have one of the most
talented rosters in the NHL. They have the Hart Memorial Trophy winner in
Auston Matthews, who will lead the offense.
Goaltending has been
an issue for Toronto. That’s why they went out and traded for Matt Murray and
signed former Washington goalie Ilya Samsonov. They will replace Jack Campbell.
The Panthers
were the top-scoring team in the NHL last year. That is why they were one of
the top teams to bet in hockey totals. They can’t seem to get past Tampa Bay in the
postseason. The Lightning eliminated Florida for the second straight season.
Florida went
out and paid big time for winger Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers traded their
leading scorer Jonathan Huberdau to Calgary, but the top sportsbooks still like
the Panthers.

Lightning May Strike
Tampa Bay has won two of the
last three Stanley Cups. The Lightning’s roster remains mostly the same and
they are listed closer to the top of the betting board at +1000.
They will have to replace Ondrej
Palat, who signed with New Jersey in the offseason. He was a big part of Tampa
Bay’s multiple championships as a member of the Lightning for the last 10
seasons.
Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point,
and Nikita Kucherov all return. So does goalie Andre Vasilevskiy, arguably the
best netminder in the NHL.

The Best of the Rest
The New York Rangers have been
one of the better defensive teams in hockey over the past few seasons. Their
goalie, Igor Shesterkin, gives Vasilevskiy a run for his money.
The Rangers added C Vincent
Trochek in the offseason. That gives them great depth in the middle with Mika
Zibanejad, Filip Chytil, and Barclay Goodrow.
Remember, the Rangers played in
the Eastern Conference finals last season. At +1400 this year, they are a
strong value pick.
The other team
to keep an eye on is Edmonton. The high-scoring duo of superstars Connor
McDavid and Leon Draisaitl now have a goalie that could carry them to new
heights.
The Oilers
signed former Toronto goaltender Jack Campbell in the offseason. Campbell went
48-12 with a 2.39 goals against average in the last two seasons with the Maple
Leafs. With a better defense, the
Oilers could be a real value at +1500.

NHL
Futures Betting Options - MVP
It’s no surprise
that the top three players on the board to win the 2023 Hart Memorial Trophy as
the NHL’s most valuable player are the three guys that have won the award over
the last three seasons.
The favorite is Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid (+250).
McDavid has won the award twice already. His playoff run last season was one of
the more remarkable ones in NHL history. McDavis scored 33 points in 16 games.
Matthews, who won the trophy last year, is next on the board at +400.
The Toronto star led the NHL with 60 goals. He added 46 assists for a 106-point
campaign in 2021-22. Matthews is only 24 and could go off again this season.
The 2020 winner of the Hart Trophy was McDavid’s teammate, Draisaitl.
With two of the top three MVP candidates, it’s easy to see why Edmonton should
be a factor in the Stanley Cup race.
Draisaitl had another outstanding season in 2021-22. He went off for 55
goals and 55 assists, 110 points total. Draisaitl finished fourth in the NHL in
points. McDavid, with 123, led the league.
Draisaitl had a very similar postseason to his teammate, McDavid. He
played the same 16 games and came up one point shy, scoring 32 in the playoffs
last season.
